Juvenile Trial Watch – Warwick Farm

Tara Madgwick - Friday May 22

Bert Vieira has bred and raced some pretty smart horses and we might have seen another at the Warwick Farm trials on Friday morning with a colt by Pride of the Dubai winning in a canter.

Trained by Gary Portelli, as were his stakes-winning siblings I’m All the Talk and Straturbo, talented colt Long Weekend was never off the bridle when racing clear to win his 740 metre heat on the synthetic track by more than six lengths under a motionless Rachel King.

Pride of Dubai is the sire of Long WeekendIt was the second trial for Long Weekend, who was a close second to Godolphin’s promising colt Damaged in his only previous trial back in March.

Long Weekend is a homebred for the Vieira family, who purchased his dam Weekend Gossip for $270,000 at the Teeley Assets Dispersal back in 2014.

A half-sister by Hussonet (USA) to multiple Group I winner Mentality, Weekend Gossip has had three winners from four foals to race and is currently in foal to Vieira’s superstar colt Trapeze Artist.
