Entries Open for Online Karaka Weanling Sale

Media Release - Wednesday May 20

The first dedicated weanling only sale is now open for entries with New Zealand Bloodstock's National Weanling Sale to be held on the Gavelhouse Plus digital platform from Thursday 11 to Sunday 21 June.

The 2020 edition will be the first of its kind, with quality weanlings offered online due to the recent COVID-19 lockdown and restrictions.

While the Sale may be new, weanling graduates are no strangers to success having recorded an impressive score of nine Group One wins and 81 stakes wins in the current six seasons, headlined by recent New Zealand Oaks winner Jennifer Eccles (NZ) (Rip Van Winkle), a $5,000 weanling purchase in 2017.

For investors and pinhookers, the Sale offers a happy hunting ground for those searching for their next pinhook success story or racetrack star with the likes of Group One winners Gingernuts (NZ) (Iffraaj), Yourdeel (NZ) (Dundeel) and Puccini (NZ) (Encosta de Lago) all initially going through the ring as weanlings.

Weanlings offered in the Sale will be eligible to enter in the Karaka Million Series featuring two $1 million races available for graduates as two and three-year-olds, plus the $100,000 CollinsonForex Karaka Cup for the duration of their career.
