One to Watch – Queanbeyan

Tara Madgwick - Sunday May 17

Pride of Dubai posted his eighth first crop winner on Sunday and she was so impressive on debut, she’s our ‘One to Watch’.

Pride of Dubai is the sire of Proud MiaAstute Canberra trainer Nick Olive knew he had a smart one when Proud Mia won her only previous trial back in November and punters were quick to support her on raceday, sending the speed filly out as a short priced favourite for the 900 metre juvenile maiden.

Proud Mia led for home after straightening and opened up to win by nearly four lengths in a dominant display.

A $60,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the Aquis Farm draft for her trainer, Proud Mia is a half-sister to stakes-placed Spaceboy.

She is the second winner from Miatoko, a half-sister by Danzero to stakes-placed Miss Antaeus and to the dam of Group III winner Testashadow from the family of champion 3YO sprinter and sire Zoustar.

Proud Mia is the eighth winner for Street Cry’s dual Group I winning son Pride of Dubai, who has seven in Australia and one in New Zealand.

The leading Australian first season sire by earnings, Pride of Dubai stands at Coolmore at a fee of $38,500 this spring
