Street Cry's Trekking Triumphs in a Thrilling Goodwood

Mark Smith - Saturday May 16

What a wonderful servant Trekking has proven to be for Godolphin – seemingly forever flying under the radar despite rarely running a bad race, while showcasing the royal blue silks in five states in the space of 12 months.

Trekking has been a great flagbearer for Godolphin winning $3.7 million in prizemoney

When the James Cummings-trained gelding finished determinably under John Allen to edge out Gytrash in Saturday’s Group 1 Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville, the 5yo son of Street Cry (IRE) earned a second win at the highest level while banking over $3.7 million.

Trekking defeated Gytrash (Lope de Vega) by a short-half-head with Lyre (Medaglia d’Oro) one and three-quarter lengths back in third.

Winner of last year’s Stradbroke Handicap at Eagle Farm, Trekking was a luckless third in The Everest last October having earned a slot in the race following his win in the Group II Schillaci Stakes at Caulfield.

It’s not over just yet for Trekking. The stable indicated he is likely to attempt a defense of his title in the Stradbroke.

Bred by Darley, Trekking is the first foal of the 3-time winning Redoute's Choice mare Outdoor who is a daughter of the Champion 3YO filly in Australia in 2006, Serenade Rose.

A daughter of Stravinsky (USA), Serenade Rose won the Group 1 VRC Oaks, Group 1 AJC Australian Oaks and Group 1 STC Arrowfield Stud Stakes.

She had just three foals before her death in November 2011.

Outdoor has a 3yo Lonhro colt named Jetski who has won three of his 12 starts.

Not served in 2016, Outdoor had a Street Boss (USA) in 2018 that was died after birth. She has a weanling filly by Ribchester (IRE) and was covered by Street Boss (USA) last spring.
