Exciting New Stakes-Winner for Deep Field

Tara Madgwick - Saturday May 16

Joe O’Neil’s Prime Thoroughbreds colours have had a lot of success this season on top class filly Rubisaki, but not far behind is progressive Deep Field filly Fituese, who stepped up to win her first Black Type race when taking out the Listed Denise’s Joy Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill on Saturday.

The John Thompson trained filly was breathtakingly good when resuming from a spell to win at Randwick on May 2 and confirmed her potential with this performance against a strong field of fillies.

She travelled just behind the leaders for Rachel King and accelerated hard to the line to win by a length and a quarter in a slick 1:02.56 seconds.

“She’s an incredible horse, she’s just so quiet, you would swear blind she was the stable pony,” said John Thompson.

Fituese - stable pony a stakes-winner! “She’s just one of those horses that when you switch her into gear, away she goes. I have a healthy respect for those fillies today, so the way she won, she’s a filly going places.

“There’s a couple of races in Queensland she could possibly go up for, but first things first, she needs to pull up well.”

With five wins from seven starts and prizemoney just shy of $240,000, Fituese looks to have a very bright future.

A $55,000 Magic Millions Perth purchase for Prime Thoroughbreds from the Western Breeders Alliance draft, Fituese is the second winner from Cattalo, a Tiger Hill (IRE) grand-daughter of four-time Group I winner Mannerism.

Cattalo has a yearling filly and weanling filly by Flying Spur’s Group II winner Mahuta.

Fituese is the fifth stakes-winner for Newgate Farm’s Deep Field, who stands this spring at a fee of $55,000.
