Juvenile Trial Watch – Warwick Farm

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday May 12

Godolphin enjoyed phenomenal success last season with their two year-olds which included Group I winners Kiamichi (Golden Slipper), Microphone (Sires Produce) and Lyre (Blue Diamond), but this season has been a little quieter, however the performance of a blue-blooded Lonhro colt at the Warwick Farm trials on Tuesday would suggest they may have saved the best for last.

Lonhro is the sire of BeyliksBeyliks showed up at the early spring trials last year and was favourite for the Group III ATC Breeders Plate in which he finished third to Global Quest after being slowly away.

Spelled straight after, he returned in January having just the one start when he clearly did not enjoy the heavy 8 track finishing a distant third to Cellsabeel.

Beyliks was in the stewards report after that race having begun awkwardly, raced greenly and then suffered a port race poor recovery, so I’m inclined to think that’s a day Beyliks and his trainer James Cummings would rather forget.

He looked fit and well in his trial this morning finding the line between runners under a hold to win his 808 metre heat by a neck under James McDonald.

Entered for the Group I BRC JJ Atkins Stakes (1400m) next month, Beyliks is the first foal of Group III winning Exceed and Excel mare Ottoman, a full sister to stakes-winner Isaurian from the family of $3.8 million earner and five time Group I winner Mummify.

Beyliks was not the only juvenile trial winner for Godolphin with Zoustar filly Virgo doing everything right in her heat to post a half length win at her first public outing.

She was a $600,000 Karaka purchase for Godolphin from the Cambridge Stud draft and is the first foal of Imanana, a More Than Ready (USA) daughter of Group I winner Imananabaa.

Virgo was a $600,000 Karaka purchase for Godolphin
