One to Watch – Ballarat

Tara Madgwick - Monday May 11

Breednet had better things to do than write stories yesterday given it was Mother’s Day, however there was a debut two year-old winner on Sunday worthy of a lot closer inspection.

Anthony Freedman puts the polish on I Am Invincible filly La Mexicana, who was favourite for the 1100 metre juvenile fillies maiden at Ballarat and duly won in a canter.

She led all the way for Jamie Kah and cruised home to win by two and a half lengths.

A $320,000 Magic Millions purchase for Belmont Bloodstock from the Lime Country Thoroughbreds draft, La Mexicana runs for Ricky Surace’s B2B Thoroughbreds.

La Mexicana was a $320,000 MM purchase

Bred in Victoria by Makybe, La Mexicana is the second winner from stakes-wining Domesday mare Cailin Miss, who has a yearling colt by All Too Hard and a weanling filly by Russian Revolution.

La Mexicana was the 17th two year-old winner of the season for Yarraman Park;s champion sire I Am Invincible, who stands at a fee of $209,000 this spring.
