Nicks That Click – Champion Sires from the Same Stud

Tara Madgwick - Sunday May 10

When any stud introduces a new sire to their roster, the hope is always that his progeny will compliment those of the sires that have gone before.

A champion sire in Chile, Hussonet (USA) was a left field pick for Arrowfield Stud when he arrived here in 2003, but he has proven a great match for the blood of their legendary sire Redoute’s Choice.

The nick produced another new stakes-winner in the Listed Doomben Guineas last Saturday won by Vanna Girl, who is by Hussonet’s s son Husson (Arg) from a daughter of Redoute’s Choice.

Hussonet and Redoute’s Choice combine in the pedigrees of 23 stakes-winners from 191 runners at a 12% stakes-winner to runner strike rate.

The star current performer for the nick is Redoute’s Choice colt King’s Legacy (from Hussonet mare Breakfast in Bed) , who won both the Group I ATC Sires Produce Stakes and Champagne Stakes this year.

Dual G1 winner King's Legacy is by Redoute's Choice from a daughter of Hussonet

Redoute’s Choice directly over daughters of Hussonet has an impressive 30% stakes-winner to runner strike rate with six stakes-winners from 20 runners and 80% winners to runners.

There are over 160 broodmares in Australia by Hussonet according to Australian Studbook and given the plethora of Redoute’s Choice line sires available to breeders across a wide spectrum of price ranges there is ample opportunity to explore this nick.
