$700,000 for Adrift in foal to Merchant Navy

Tara Madgwick - Friday May 8

Group II winning Zabeel mare Adrift was a highlight this afternoon at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale when fetching $700,000 for Segenhoe Stud when offered in foal to Fastnet Rock’s champion son Merchant Navy.

Adrift was bought by Damon Gabbedy of Belmont Bloodstock.

Lot 26 Adrift sold for $700,000

Adrift had some bad luck with her first two foals dying, but the third, a colt by I Am Invincible, was a star at Magic Millions this year when purchased by Chris Waller / Mulcaster Bloodstock for $1,050,000.

Being by Zabeel from a daughter of Storm Cat’s outstanding son Tale of the Cat (USA), Adrift carries bloodlines that have proven highly successful with Fastnet Rock, so the Merchant Navy mating may well prove an inspired one.

Merchant Navy has covered 402 mares in his first two seasons at Coolmore a fee of $55,000 and has some outstanding weanlings.

He is priced this year at $44,000.
