Mark Smith - Wednesday May 6

There is plenty to like about the two fillies that fought out the finish of Wednesday’s $90,000 Callaghan Motors VOBIS Gold Strike (1000m) at Warrnambool.Chrome Angel makes it two from three at the Bool (Pat Scala/Racing Photos)

Making her third trip to the races and with Jamie Kah in the saddle, the Street Boss (USA) filly Chrome Angel travelled sweetly in the run behind the leaderAvida. Kah sweated on a run between Avida and Night of Delight in the straight and didn’t flinch when the gap presented.

The Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra-trained filly scored by a long neck from the John Singleton homebred Pocket Goddess, a daughter of Written Tycoon out of Magic Millions winner Karuta Queen, who was making her career debut for the Lindsay Park team.

Night Of Delight (Night Of Thunder) was one and a half lengths back in third.

A homebred for David Moodie’s Hesket Bloodstock, Chrome Angel won on debut at Bendigo on April 7 before being caught wide the trip when unplaced in The Showdown at Caulfield.

"She's got ability this horse," Kah told racing.com.

"She is very green still and goes about it the wrong way, she wants to overdo it. But riding her like that suits her.

"I thought I'd get there if I got the run and it came at the perfect time."

A half-sister to Group III winner Big Chill and Listed winners Hard Stride and Utah Saints in addition to stakes-placegetters Rough Justice and Leather ‘n’ Lace, Chrome Angel is the 9th winner from 11 to race out of the Maroof mare Hard Rider.

The 22yo mare is far from finished yet. She has a 2yo colt and a weanling colt by the great Fastnet Rock and was covered by Frosted (USA) last spring.

Darley Stud's Street Boss (USA) is having a wonderful season with his two-year-olds and is safely ensconced in the top ten with six winners of over $1million.
