Juvenile Trial Watch – Randwick

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday May 5

The Group I BRC JJ Atkins has been reduced in distance this year to 1400m and will be run at Eagle Farm on June 6 and two interesting unraced nominations both won trials at Randwick on Tuesday morning.

Trained by Mark Newnham, Redoute’s Choice filly Miravalle was asked to get serious at her second trial over 1050m and did everything right from an education and ability perspective.

She travelled kindly in the field and when angled into clear surged into contention and then when ridden along by Josh Parr moved clear to win by three lengths with ears pricked.

Miravalle as a yearling

A $460,000 Magic Millions purchase for Rick Worthington on behalf of Arrowfield Stud from the Kulani Park draft, Miravalle is a half-sister to dual Group I winner Yankee Rose and is also a three-quarter sister in blood to Group I New Zealand Derby winner Redoute’s Dancer.

She is from the good producer Condesaar, who has been making some news of late as another of her daughters Great Dansaar is the dam of undefeated Deep Field 2YO Isotope, seen as one of the leading contenders for the JJ Atkins.

Also entered for the JJ Atkins and winning his heat was the John Thompson trained Written Tycoon colt Supremo, a half-brother to Group I VRC Oaks winner Pinot and stakes-winner Dizlago from Group I Australian Oaks winner Dizelle.

Supremo won his only previous trial back in January and looked good here covering a million miles out wide all the way and doing just enough on the line to score a narrow win over another interesting horse in Falcon, the full brother to $1.9 million earner Fell Swoop.

Supremo as a yearling

Supremo was a $260,000 Inglis Easter purchase for his trainer from the Newgate Farm draft and runs for a syndicate headed by Wilf Mula’s Aston Bloodstock.
