Fees Announced for Alabama Express and Grunt

Media Release - Monday May 4

Yulong have announced the fees of 2020 stallions Alabama Express and Grunt (NZ), both Group I winning sons of champion sires.

Group 1 WFA-winning 3YO Alabama Express will debut on the Yulong roster at a fee of $27,500 (inc GST). The son of Redoute’s Choice achieved the rare feat of winning the G1 CF Orr Stakes as a 3YO, becoming the first colt to do so since All Too Hard in 2013 and in the fastest time since Lonhro in 2004.

Alabama Express stands at $27,500

A debut winning juvenile, Alabama Express also won his first start at stakes level, before graduating to Group 1 level. Trainer Mike Moroney was effusive on the natural talent shown by the beautifully bred colt who was built in the mould of his Champion sire.

His father [Redoutes Choice] won the CF Orr Stakes and hes more like dad than any other horse Ive seen,” Moroney said. “If you can replicate even half of what his dad has done, hes going to be a successful sire.”

Dual Group 1-winning miler Grunt will stand his second season at Yulong for $13,750 (inc GST). The son of O’Reilly covered 178 mares in his debut year, with great support from local breeders in addition to a strong Yulong broodmare band.

“We’re excited to stand two very talented Group 1 winners at Yulong in 2020,” said Sam Fairgray. “I worked closely with the great Redoute’s Choice for years and now couldn’t be prouder to stand his son Alabama Express at Yulong, who is a physical replica of his sire.

“Grunt kicked off his stud career with incredible support and a fantastic fertitily rate of around 90 per cent, so breeders can be confident they will have a high chance of getting their mare in foal. He is a gorgeous individual and a pleasure to deal with. We are looking forward to seeing his first foals arrive in August.”
