Sister to Toffee Tongue a Chairman’s Sale Highlight

Media Release - Sunday May 3

Renowned West Australian owners breeders Bob and Sandra Peters have enjoyed phenomenal success this season, but not even they can afford to keep every single mare they own, so two are to be offered at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale by Holbrook Thoroughbreds as agent and one of those is a full sister to Saturday’s Group I SAJC Schweppes Oaks winner Toffee Tongue.

To be offered as Lot 32 is Candyland (NZ), an unraced full sister to Group I winners Toffee Tongue and Werther as well as Group III winner Gobstopper and Group I placed Milseain.

A $400,000 Inglis Easter purchase in 2017, Candyland is by Tavistock from blue hen Bagalollies and is offered in foal to Pierro in her first season at stud.

“I’m not usually in the business of selling these sorts of mares, but it is part of a necessary stock management programme,” said Bob Peters.

“She is a lovely mare with a good pedigree. Pierro has been very good to me and lots of other breeders and I think he is well-mated to this mare.”

Lot 33 is quality Group III winning Thorn Park mare Celebrity Dream (NZ), who gave Mr and Mr Peters plenty of thrills on the track winning 11 races and over $600,000 in prizemoney with sic of her wins coming in Black Type races.

A half-sister to Group II winners Vavasour and Catalonia, Celebrity Dream is offered in foal to Justify (USA) in her first season at stud.

“She was a very good racemare, probably significantly better than her record shows. She is the sort of mare that I could build a programme around, so I would rather not be selling her,” said Peters.

“However, I have made a conscious decision to focus on my own six or so pedigrees for breeding, so the opportunity with this mare will become somebody else’s.”
