Diamonds in the Rough

Media Release - Thursday April 30

An under-estimated sire, an appealing quartet of in foal mares and a history making sale for Magic Millions spell opportunity.

AMBIDEXTER retired to stud in 2013 at the modest price of $6,600 and produced a token 38 live foals, of which a mere eight were sold as yearlings and averaged a modest $30,000.

Ambidexter

Fast forward three racing seasons and the former Woodlands bred, Darley galloper not only became the ¾ Brother to a Golden Slipper winning Sire in SIDESTEP, he also delivered “in-spades” with his progeny from that initial crop.

24 of those foals made it to the races, with an amazing 18 individual winners (75%) of an incredible 67 races.

Statistically speaking as an owner of an AMBIDEXTER you weren’t just buying a $1.75 chance to win a race, you were buying a horse that could win you three or more that on average earned $99,000 in prizemoney!

Furthermore, 4 of those 18 winners were Stakes Performers which places him in the comparatively elite band for a sire that can produce 16% Stakes Performers to runners.

Cornerstone are offering five mares in foal to AMBIDEXTER at their upcoming online Magic Millions Reduction, of which three are offered with foals at foot by SIDESTEP and FREE EAGLE.

Cornerstone notes - A 3-in-1 package that the SIDESTEP foal will likely pay for within the year! Selected and part owned by Chris Watson of Mill Park, CETINA possesses quality and a perfect breeding record for a young mare. Standing at 16HH, the READY’S IMAGE mare possesses a rich coat and a very robust, close-coupled physique with a quality head and nostril, that has clearly been imparted to the foal.

Furthermore, the foal at foot is likely to develop into a quality Adelaide Yearling, given her strength and balance is placed on a correct set of limbs and the sire of the Golden Slipper Winner will have a groundswell of support from the Sales companies following the arrival of his 5th crop conceived off the exploits of KIAMICHI’s 2yo campaign.

Lot 31 De Puivert (NZ) with Free Eagle colt

Cornerstone notes
- A super opportunity to pick up a “3 in 1” package for a local breeder looking for value. FREE EAGLE had 7 Yearlings sell at Adelaide Magic Millions at an average of $27,429 and he had a filly sell for $100,000 in New Zealand. Furthermore, with his 1st crop of runners likely to start “hitting” the track in the coming few weeks, this becomes a genuine opportunity to own a potentially commercial weanling.

DE PUIVERT throws stock that are generally a touch small, but develop well into their Yearling stage. She has had yearlings sell up to $140,000 at Magic Millions. The current foal at foot, is typical of a November foal from a slow maturing stallion. He will need some time to strengthen, but a little patience will be rewarded in the long-term.

Cornerstone notes - An attractive mare, whose 1st foal by HEADWATER topped this year’s Magic Millions Breeze ups at $420,000.

In addition to ATOMIC (by Commands), this pedigree has thrown up in recent years ANATINA(by Fastnet Rock) and SUGAR BOOM (by Spirit of Boom). In short, a mightily fast family that clicks so beautifully with Danehill.

Under the 2 nd dam, RED DUCHEZ has 10 breeding sisters or daughters of sisters in foal to stallions such as MERCHANT NAVY, STAR WITNESS, RUSSIAN REVOLUTION.

Her 2 nd foal is a filly by SIR PRANCEALOT has been retained by the breeder to race in Queensland. A medium size, attractive filly that looked precocious.
