Arrowfield Announce 2020 Service Fees

Media Release - Thursday April 30

Arrowfield Stud today announced its 2020 Stallion Roster in what Chairman John Messara describes as "unprecedented circumstances in Australia's history."

New to Arrowfield's line-up for the 2020 breeding season is Champion Victorian Sire, Written Tycoon.

Written Tycoon, who will stand at a fee of $77,000 inc. GST, currently sits 9th on the Australian Active General Sires' List with 2019/20 earnings in excess of $8.5 million.

Written Tycoon is moving to Arrowfield at a fee of $77,000

Messara says, "We are excited to join forces with Woodside Park Stud to stand Written Tycoon at Arrowfield in 2020 and welcome the possibilities our alliance might deliver in the future. Woodside will continue to support Written Tycoon and Arrowfield has already committed to back him strongly with quality mares from our broodmare band."

Exceptional Group 1-winning 2YO & 3YO Castelvecchio (Dundeel-St.Therese by Dehere) will stand his first season at a fee of $33,000 inc. GST.

Castelvecchio stands at a fee of $33,000

Messara explains, "Castelvecchio is a horse we simply had to have after his amazing juvenile season and his world-class second to Lys Gracieux in the Cox Plate. He confirmed our assessment of him with his Rosehill Guineas win and we were very much looking forward to his Spring 4YO campaign.

"However, due to the current economic upheaval caused by COVID-19, we have mutually agreed with Shadai Stallion Station to rest our Japanese shuttle stallions in 2020. This decision and Not A Single Doubt's retirement present a breeding opportunity for Castelvecchio that we simply can't ignore."

As a Group 1 winner who is free of Danehill and joining a smaller-than-usual Arrowfield roster, Castelvecchio will have the advantage of a spectacular launch, with many of the Stud's Danehill-line mares now ear-marked for him.

Castelvecchio will stand alongside his sire, the magnificent Dundeel, whose fee remains at $66,000 inc. GST despite a stellar season.

Reigning Champion Sire Snitzel will stand at a reduced fee of $165,000 inc. GST in recognition of the current worldwide economic environment.

Champion sire Snitzel stands at a fee of $165,000

Snitzel recently celebrated both his 28th million-dollar yearling and his 100th individual stakeswinner, propelling him back to the top of the current General Sires' Premiership. If he secures the 2019/20 title, Snitzel will be the first stallion since his grandsire Danehill to win four consecutive Australian Sire Premierships.

The fee for Pariah's third season has been similarly adjusted, to $16,500 inc. GST, and Champion 3YO Colt The Autumn Sun's second-season fee has been set at $66,000 inc. GST.

The fees are unchanged for Champion 2YO Colt Shalaa whose first Australian yearlings averaged $168,000 (median $150,000) and syndicated Group 2-winning sprinter Showtime, whose first foals arrive this Spring.

Almost all of the 300-plus mares controlled by Arrowfield will visit the eight stallions on the Stud's 2020 roster - a valuable support for other breeders, given the Stud's consistent record as a source of Arrowfield stallions' career-making stars.
