One to Watch – Geelong

Tara Madgwick - Sunday April 26

Newgate Farm's Deep Field keeps rolling out those three year-old winners and unleashed an impressive debut winner on Sunday at Geelong raced by the Sheldon family of Macedon Park in Victoria.

Trained by Tony and Calvin McEvoy, blue-blooded filly Teramia was a short priced favourite and justified the faith of punters when surging clear to win the 1112m maiden by more than two lengths eased down.

Teramia as a yearlingRidden quietly from an outside gate by Jamie Kah, she covered ground in the run and was way too classy in the run home.

A $180,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Randwick Bloodstock from the Southern Cross Breeders draft, Teramia was bred by renowned breeder Catherine Remond, who has nurtured this female family with great success.

Foaled and raised at Senga Bissett’s Ashleigh Thoroughbreds, Teramia is a half-sister to Group III winner Anise and is the seventh winner from seven to race from Pimpinella, a sibling to Group I winners Fairy King Prawn and Easy Rocking and daughter of blue hen Twiglet.

Pimpinella is also a three-quarter sister to stakes-winner Crevette, the dam of dual Group I winner and $1.4million earner Cosmic Endeavour, who is by Deep Field’s sire Northern Meteor.

Teramia is the last foal from Pimpinella, who died in 2018.
