Another Stakes-Winner Sold by Newgate Farm

Tara Madgwick - Friday September 1
Group III placed last season in the Kembla Classic, talented Snitzel mare Lubiton put the writing on the wall she was in for a good campaign when winning first up at Canterbury last month and went right on with the job when taking out the Listed Mona Lisa Stakes at Wyong on Friday.

Lubiton wins the Mona LisaPrepared by Bjorn Baker, Lubiton (image Steve Hart) was sent out favourite and raced up on the pace for Glyn Schofield before forging clear to beat her stablemate Imposing Lass by the best part of a length in the 1350 metre sprint.

"Lubiton was brave - you've got to be forward today and it was an excellent effort," said Bjorn Baker, who was equally pleased with the run of Imposing Lass.

"I think they are probably more middle distance horses but we'll have to have a think about where we go with both of them.

"There's a pretty good race at Newcastle (Tibbie Stakes) coming up and there's the Golden Pendant in three weeks so we'll have to have a big think.

"It's great to get a Listed win with Lubiton and Steve Gillard (owner) has been a big supporter of the stable. She's a valuable mare now being by Snitzel."

Lubiton as a yearlingLubiton was a $250,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Newgate Farm draft and runs for Steve and Louise Gillard.

With four wins from 13 starts, Lubiton has already won nearly $230,000 and is the first winner for Rosa Stellata, a Zabeel daughter of Group I winner Camino Rose.

She was a successful pinhook for Newgate, having been bought as a weanling for $150,000 from Bell View Park, who sold Rosa Stellata for $90,000 at the Inglis Broodmare Sale last year.

Bell View Park also bred and sold another recent Snitzel stakes-winner in Sweet Redemption.

Lubiton is the 68th stakes-winner for champion sire Snitzel and is his sixth so far this season.
